Explore this section to get started with Nokia Ovi Suite and learn to use some of its basic functions and options.
Installing Nokia Ovi Suite
The first step is to install Nokia Ovi Suite on your compatible PC. Download the software application to your computer from the Download section and start installation by double-clicking the installer file. During the installation you can select additional PC applications to add new functionality. The additional applications offer you more possibilities to use your Nokia device with your PC.
Creating a connection between your Nokia device and computer
The first thing to do after you have installed Nokia Ovi Suite is to connect your Nokia device and PC. All the required software drivers for your device will be installed on your PC.
The Application view opens after installation. You can now connect your Nokia device and PC. Note that some Nokia Ovi Suite applications can be used even if there is no device-to-PC connection available.
To connect your Nokia device and PC:
Make sure that the device is switched on.
Depending on what connection type you want to use and what your device and PC support, you should connect the data cable to the PC first and then connect the other end of the cable to the device.
Activate the Bluetooth wireless technology connection of your device.
If you use the data cable, the connection is created automatically. If you use Bluetooth, click the Connect Nokia device button to launch the Connection Manager. You have to do this only when you connect your device for the first time.
After connecting your device and your PC, you are ready to synchronise them. This means that you can, for example, copy your calendar appointments from the PC to your device and your photos from your device to your PC.
Managing your settings
In order to use Nokia Ovi Suite as efficiently as possible, we suggest that you take a few minutes to create settings that best suit your Nokia device and your computer setup.
The way Nokia Ovi Suite works can be modified in the Nokia Ovi Suite Settings window. The Settings window is divided into six areas:
General settings - define the start-up options and select themes
Synchronization settings - change the way multimedia and calendar data synchronization works
Upload settings - define user accounts for web services, such as Share on Ovi
Search settings - limit your searching to your PC Gallery select or search from the entire PC
Update Manager settings - define how, when and what Nokia PC software is updated
You can open the Settings window by selecting Settings in the Tools category of the Application view, or by right-clicking on the Application view and selecting Settings from the context menu.
Synchronizing your Nokia device and PC
After connecting your device and your PC, you are ready to synchronize them. This means that you can, for example, copy your calendar appointments from the PC to your device and your photos from your device to your PC.
After you have connected your device and your PC, you can synchronize the calendar information, contacts and notes between your email and calendar applications on the PC and the device. Furthermore, your new multimedia items, such as images, videos, and messages will be copied from your device to the PC, where you can use the Nokia Nseries PC applications to view, edit, and share them. This happens when you click the Synchronize button.
To copy your images and messages from the device to the PC and to synchronize your calendar data:
Select the device you that want to synchronize from the phone selector list. The list shows all the connected devices and their connection types, if there are several.
Click the Synchronize button to start the synchronization.
If you are synchronizing your device and your PC for the first time, you need to define what will be synchronized. The Synchronization settings window opens.
Updating your device software
With Nokia Application Installer, you can install Symbian and Java™ applications such as calculators, calendars or games from the PC to a Nokia multimedia device. You can install the following file types depending on the device model:
.SIS files
.SISX files
.JAR files
For more information on what kind of applications can be installed on your device, refer to the device's user guide.
You can download the applications to your PC for example from applicable Nokia web pages or other service providers' pages. You can also install applications that you have created yourself.
Note that Nokia does not offer a warranty for applications from non-Nokia sites. If you choose to download applications from them, you should take the same precautions, for security or content, as you would with any site.
Copyright protections may prevent some images, ringing tones and other content from being copied, modified, transferred or forwarded.
When you install an application that uses both .JAD and .JAR files, both files must be saved to the same folder on your PC before the installation.
